Tips for a bee friendly garden
Categories :
The best place to start to make the world a better place to bee is in your back garden, or patio if you are in the city.
Plant the following in your garden as the essential nutrition for bees:
- Alyssum
- Annual Coreopsis
- Annual scabious
- bee sage
- Borage
- Candytuft
- Catmint
- Chives
- Comfrey
- French Marigold
- Larkspur
- Lavender
- Mexican hat
- Nasturtium
- Sage
- Sea holly
- Sedum
- Sunflower
- Sweet William
- Tobacco plant
Reduce the use of pesticides in your garden – the widespread use of pesticides has been implicated in Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD), where whole hives have been found abandoned.
Bees need water – place pebbles in a shallow dish of water and you will be bombarded with bumble and honeybees after a few days. Keep it replenished and they will keep returning: bees have good memories.
Provide a shelter for bees from rain or temperature changes. Have longer grasses or densely planted borders.
